Stage 3 of 5 · The state exam
How to change WORD: can you take theory and practical tests in different cities?
You can change your regional driving test centre (WORD) even after starting the test process. You can pass theory at one centre and take the practical test in another city. You do not need a new PKK or to retake theory you have already passed.
If the first WORD has already downloaded your Driver Candidate Profile, apply to have it transferred or made available to the centre you choose. The old WORD also passes on your test results and releases the PKK so the next centre can download it.

Must you take your driving test in your home city?
No.
Neither where you live nor where you completed your course ties you to one particular WORD.
For example, you can complete a course in Wrocław and take the state test in Opole, Legnica, Wałbrzych or another centre that conducts tests for the relevant licence category.
Before choosing, check that the WORD or its branch actually offers tests for the category you are applying for.
Can you take theory at one WORD and the practical test at another?
Yes.
A successful state theory test result is recorded in your Driver Candidate Profile. It is not valid only at the WORD where you took the test.
The rules on transferring PKK between centres require the profile to be accompanied by information on test results, the scope of the tests and the dates they took place.
For example, you can:
pass theory in Wrocław → transfer your PKK → take the practical test in Opole
You do not retake theory simply because the practical test venue has changed.
A successful state theory test result currently has no expiry date.
When do you actually need to transfer your PKK?
If no WORD has downloaded your profile since you completed training, you can simply book a test at your chosen centre.
A transfer is mainly needed when one WORD has already downloaded your PKK, for example because:
- you took theory there,
- you have taken a practical test,
- you already have another test booked,
- or you previously registered at that centre.
The first WORD must then make the profile available to the next centre and release it so the new WORD can download it.
Our guide to getting a PKK — Driver Candidate Profile explains what the profile is and how to obtain it.
How to change WORD, step by step
1. Choose a new test centre
Check that your chosen WORD offers tests for your category and how registration works.
Also check the cars used for practical tests: after changing centres, you may take the test in a different model from the one used at your previous WORD.
2. Cancel any test you already have booked
If you have a test booked at the old WORD, arrange to cancel it.
The rules require written notice that you will not attend, no later than 2 working days before the scheduled test.
Centres may provide their own forms or electronic ways to cancel a booking.
3. Apply to transfer or release your PKK
Ask the WORD currently holding your profile to transfer it to your chosen centre.
Form names vary between centres. You may see:
- an application to release a PKK (“wniosek o uwolnienie PKK”),
- release of a PKK to another WORD (“zwolnienie profilu PKK do innego WORD-u”),
- an application to transfer records to a specified centre.
Name the WORD where you want to continue taking tests.
4. The old WORD transfers your test results
At the candidate’s request, the WORD director sends the documents or makes the PKK available to the specified test centre.
The transfer also includes:
- test results,
- the scope of the tests conducted,
- the dates they took place.
This is why you do not lose your theory pass when changing WORD.
5. The old WORD releases your PKK
After completing the procedure, the old centre releases the profile it previously downloaded, allowing the next test provider to download it.
You do not obtain a second PKK number.
6. Book your test at the new WORD
Once the new centre has access to the profile, you can book the relevant part of the test.
If you have already passed theory, book the practical test directly.
You book on the info-kierowca.pl portal. It suggests WORD centres based on the address in your profile — when choosing the centre, make sure you pick the new WORD. A balance from payments at your previous centre does not move to the new one.
Forms you need to change WORD
There is no single nationwide form for changing WORD. The regulation on driving tests (§ 35(2) and (4)) only says the profile is transferred at the request of the person taking the test — each centre prepares its own form.
- Request to transfer (release) the PKK and cancellation of a booked test date — download them from the website of the WORD that currently holds your profile (usually under “Dokumenty”, “Druki” or “Wzory dokumentów”). Examples: WORD Poznań — Dokumenty, WORD Opole — Wzory dokumentów dla klientów.
- Booking a test at the new WORD — through the nationwide portal info-kierowca.pl (PWPW), which WORD websites link to, or in the way the chosen centre indicates.
Can you change WORD after failing a practical test?
Yes.
Failing a practical test does not oblige you to stay at the same centre.
You can decide to take your next attempt at another WORD.
The old centre sends information about the tests conducted and their results with the profile.
Changing centres does not cancel a previous theory pass.
There is also no rule requiring another course just because you want to take the test at a different WORD.
If you have concerns about how the test itself was conducted, changing centres does not resolve them. That is what the complaint procedure is for, described in our guide to test recordings and complaints about the conduct of a test.
Can you change WORD after several failed tests?
Yes.
The number of previous attempts does not prevent you from changing centres.
The profile contains test results, so the new WORD also receives your previous test history.
This does not mean you must continue taking tests in the same city.
What happens to money paid to the previous WORD?
Transferring your PKK and settling the test fee are separate matters.
Do not assume money paid to one WORD will automatically be transferred with the profile to another centre.
WORD centres publish separate forms for:
- cancelling a test booking,
- releasing a PKK,
- refunding an unused test fee.
If unused funds remain with the old WORD, check its current refund procedure.
Pay the test fee at the new centre according to its own rules.
This also matters because test fees can differ between voivodeships.
Compare driving licence exam costs across Poland’s voivodeships.
Does changing WORD affect your driving school?
No.
Changing test centres is not the same as changing driving schools.
If you have completed your course, choosing another WORD does not require transferring your training to a different school (OSK).
These are two independent procedures:
- OSK provides training.
- WORD conducts the state test.
If you want to change training providers rather than test centres, see how to change driving schools during a course.
Can you use your school’s car at another WORD?
The rules allow the practical state test to be conducted in a driving school’s vehicle under certain conditions.
If you want to use your school’s car after changing WORD, agree this with both the school and your chosen test centre and complete the required formalities.
Do not assume your school’s car will automatically be available in any city.
Before changing WORD, check which cars it uses for category B tests and consider a preparatory lesson in that model.
Is the theory test easier at another WORD?
Changing cities does not change the rules of the state theory test.
The test is computer-based and uses an approved question bank.
There is no separate local set of questions prepared by an individual WORD.
Choosing another city may help with practical arrangements, such as test dates, but does not create a different version of the state theory test.
Is it worth changing WORD before the practical test?
It depends on your situation.
Changing centres may make practical sense if:
- you have moved to another city,
- the dates at your current centre do not suit you,
- you want to take the test closer to home,
- you prefer to continue elsewhere for other reasons.
Before deciding, check:
- test dates,
- test vehicles,
- opportunities for preparatory driving lessons in the new city,
- traffic arrangements in an area you do not yet know.
Moving the test to another city does not, by itself, guarantee an easier test.

Frequently asked questions
Can I take a course in Wrocław and the test in Opole?
Yes. Your training location does not require you to take the test at the WORD for the city where you attended the course.
I passed theory in Wrocław. Can I take the practical test in another city?
Yes. At your request, the old WORD can make your PKK available to another centre you specify, together with information about your theory pass.
Must I retake theory after changing WORD?
No. Changing test centres does not invalidate a successful state theory test result.
Do I need a new PKK number?
No. The next WORD uses the same Driver Candidate Profile.
Can I change WORD after failing the practical test?
Yes. Once your PKK has been transferred, you can take your next practical test at another centre.
Can the new WORD see my previous results?
Yes. The rules provide for the transfer of test results, the scope of the tests and their dates.
I already have a practical test booked. Can I change WORD now?
Yes, but first arrange to cancel the booking at the old centre. The rules require notice that you will not attend no later than 2 working days before the test.
Will the money I paid for the test move to the new WORD?
Do not assume so. Refunding or settling an unused fee is a separate procedure from transferring the PKK.
