What is protected?

Protection covers materials that qualify as works through their creative and individual character. Ideas, procedures and operating principles themselves are not protected (Article 1(1) and (2¹) of the Polish Copyright and Related Rights Act).

When is permission required?

Outside statutory exceptions, obtain permission from the holder of the relevant rights before copying, publishing, modifying or distributing protected materials. This also applies to use on other websites, social media, in publications and training materials (Article 16(3) and Article 17).

Using or disposing of an adaptation, such as a translation or reworking, requires the original author’s permission unless the original economic rights have expired or a statutory exception applies (Article 2(1)–(2)). Crediting or linking to PrawkoStart.pl alone does not replace the required permission.

Can materials be used without permission?

Yes, where the law allows it. These rules do not restrict permitted use or other statutory exceptions. Personal use allows free use of an already disseminated work within Article 23(1)–(2), covering individual copies for people with a personal relationship. It does not give general permission to share materials publicly online.

What does the quotation exception allow?

A work constituting an independent whole may quote excerpts from disseminated works, or entire disseminated artistic works, photographic works or minor works, to the extent justified by the purpose of quotation, such as explanation, discussion, critical or scientific analysis or teaching, or by the conventions of the creative genre (Article 29).

Permitted use requires identifying the author by name and the source, taking account of the possibilities available (Article 34). It must not interfere with normal use of the work or prejudice the author’s legitimate interests (Article 35).

How can I request permission?

Use the contact form on the website of the site’s author, arti24.eu. Identify the material or page URL, how and where you plan to use it, and any proposed modifications. Where permission is required, wait until it has been granted before using the material; submitting a request does not constitute permission.
