Category B driving test price in Poland in 2026
In 2026, there is no single category B driving test price across Poland. Theory and practical tests are paid for separately, and each voivodeship assembly sets its own fees: PLN 55–59 for theory and PLN 222–239 for the category B practical test, depending on the voivodeship where you take the test.

Fees change on different dates. In 2026, some voivodeships increased them in winter, others in spring, and some only in autumn. Check your WORD’s current price list before paying.
Why do driving test fees differ between voivodeships?
Each voivodeship assembly sets state driving test fees in a resolution that has the force of local law (Article 56a(1) of the Polish Act on Drivers). The Act sets only an upper limit.
The statutory base limits are PLN 50 for theory and PLN 200 for the category B practical test. Under Article 56b, these limits increase annually in line with the annual average consumer price index announced by the President of GUS (Główny Urząd Statystyczny, Poland’s statistical office).
After indexation, the maximum fees for 2026 are PLN 59.78 for theory and PLN 239.13 for category B practical. These are caps the assembly cannot exceed, rather than the fees a WORD necessarily charges.
An assembly does not have to adopt the maximum fee. It must take the costs of conducting tests into account (Article 56a(2)). Actual fees therefore differ:
- PLN 59 and PLN 239 in many voivodeships;
- PLN 56.98 and PLN 229.99 in mazowieckie;
- still PLN 55 and PLN 222 in dolnośląskie, under its 2024 resolution.
Resolutions are adopted in different months, so the differences can change during the year.
How much is the theory test?
In 2026, theory costs between PLN 55 (dolnośląskie) and PLN 59 (including pomorskie, śląskie and wielkopolskie). Within a voivodeship, the theory fee is the same for all driving licence categories.
You pay separately for each theory test attempt.
How much is the category B practical test?
The category B practical test costs PLN 222 (dolnośląskie) to PLN 239 (including kujawsko-pomorskie, lubelskie, pomorskie and śląskie) in 2026. WORD charges the same fee for categories including AM, A1, A2, A, B1, C1, D1 and T.
The practical test takes place in a WORD car. Using your driving school’s car involves a separate cost, explained below.
How much does a retake cost?
A retake is not cheaper. After a failed test, another date is booked once you pay again (§ 11(5) of the examination regulation).
- If you fail theory, pay the theory fee again for your next attempt.
- If you fail the practical test, pay the practical fee again.
For example, in dolnośląskie, passing theory first time and practical second time costs:
PLN 55 (theory) + PLN 222 (first practical attempt) + PLN 222 (second practical attempt) = PLN 499.
The same scenario at fees of PLN 59 and PLN 239 costs PLN 537.
Do you have to pay for theory again after passing?
No. Once you pass theory, you only pay for the practical test on subsequent attempts.
Passing theory is a condition for taking the practical test (Article 52(1) of the Act on Drivers). Your result remains recorded in your Profil Kandydata na Kierowcę (PKK, driver candidate profile).
What happens if you miss your test?
What matters is whether you notify WORD in time:
- Give written notice at least 2 working days before the test, including electronically, for example through the WORD system or with a Polish trusted signature (podpis zaufany). The centre then sets another date without charging again (§ 11(6)–(7)).
- Miss the test without giving this notice, and another date will only be set after you pay again (§ 11(5)).
In unforeseen circumstances, the WORD director may shorten the 2-working-day notice period at your request (§ 11(8)). Explain your reasons and attach supporting documents if you have them.
If fees have increased in the meantime, some centres, such as WORD Olsztyn, state that you must pay the difference up to the current fee when a new date is set.
Can you get your test fee back?
The examination rules cover carrying a payment over to another date, rather than refunds. Refunding an unused payment is a separate procedure handled by each centre.
Centres publish their own forms, such as PORD Gdańsk’s “Wniosek o zwrot niewykorzystanej wpłaty” (request to refund an unused payment) or WORD Katowice’s “Zwroty opłat za egzaminy” (test fee refunds) page.
If you want to cancel altogether and recover an unused payment, check your WORD’s refund procedure. Do not assume a refund is automatic, especially if you missed your test without advance notice.
Where to book the test and find WORD forms
Online test booking happens on the nationwide info-kierowca.pl portal (PWPW) — the booking buttons on WORD websites lead there. Step by step:
- Log in through login.gov.pl (the mObywatel app) or the eDO App.
- Choose your PKK number and category. The portal suggests the 5 nearest WORD centres based on the address in your profile.
- Choose a date for the theory, practical or combined test (theory and practical on the same day).
- After the preliminary booking, pay online (card, BLIK, instant transfer). If you have a balance at that WORD from earlier payments, the amount is reduced by it.
- The booking is valid once WORD confirms it — the status changes to “Potwierdzona” (confirmed) and you can download the certificate.
Changing and cancelling. In “Lista moich spraw” (my cases) you can cancel a booking or change its date no later than 2 working days before the test — changing the date online works only at some WORD centres.
This matches the legal deadline for notifying WORD in writing; after it, the WORD director can shorten it only in unforeseen circumstances, at your request (see what if I miss the test).
If the portal shows only theory dates, the driving school has not yet recorded the completed course in your PKK — what to do then. If no dates are free, the portal suggests checking other centres in the region and looking regularly, as dates change.
Technical problems (login, payment, a stuck form) go to PWPW technical support: kontakt@info-kierowca.pl, tel. +48 22 464 79 99. Fee refunds and other substantive matters are decided by WORD.
Cancelling a date, requesting a fee refund — there are no nationwide templates; each WORD publishes its own forms (e.g. WORD Poznań — Dokumenty). When cancelling keeps your fee for the next date is explained above in what if I miss the test and fee refunds.
Does your payment move with you when you change WORD?
Transferring your PKK and settling your payment are separate matters. Your profile is transferred to the new centre, but your payment stays with the old WORD. Any refund must be arranged there.
At the new centre, you pay its fees, which may differ from those in your previous voivodeship.
See our guide to changing WORD and handling your PKK and payment. If you are setting up your profile, read how to obtain a PKK driver candidate profile.
Does taking the test in your driving school’s car cost more?
Yes, there is usually an extra cost. You can take the category B practical test in a car belonging to the driving school that trained you, at your request and expense (Article 53(4a) of the Act on Drivers).
- You pay WORD the same test fee as when using the centre’s car.
- Your driving school charges separately for providing its car, under its own price list. There is no nationwide price for this service.
You must attach the school’s consent to your request. The school may refuse to provide the car if it informs you and WORD at least 5 days before the test.
If it fails to provide the car without that notice, the school covers the additional cost of taking the test in a WORD car. If theory and practical are scheduled for the same day and you fail theory, the school also covers the cost of providing the car (Article 53a).
For an example from one Wrocław driving school, see how much a category B driving licence costs in Wrocław.
Should you choose a WORD just because it is cheaper?
Usually not. The difference between voivodeships is a matter of tens of złoty per attempt. Other factors often matter more:
- Available dates: a longer wait may mean extra refresher lessons.
- Travel to the test centre.
- Familiarity with the city and test routes.
- The model of test car.
- Opportunities to practise near the centre.
One failed practical attempt costs more than the fee difference between the cheapest and most expensive voivodeships.
How much should you budget for the category B test?
If you pass both parts first time, budget PLN 277 (dolnośląskie: PLN 55 + PLN 222) to PLN 298 (voivodeships charging PLN 59 + PLN 239) in 2026. The exact amount depends on where you take the test.
Each practical retake adds PLN 222–239, and each theory retake PLN 55–59. Extra lessons and providing a driving school car may add further costs.
Test fees are only part of the overall cost. For the course, medical examination, photo and licence issuance, see category B driving licence costs in Wrocław. Our step-by-step guide to getting a category B driving licence explains the whole process.
