Stage 1 of 5 · Before you start
How to get a PKK: your driver candidate profile, step by step
To get a PKK, you need a medical examination, a photograph and an application submitted to the transport department responsible for your place of residence. You can apply in person, by post or electronically through ePUAP.
The office then creates your profile and assigns a PKK number. PKK stands for Profil Kandydata na Kierowcę: the electronic driver candidate profile needed to start training and book a state driving test.

PKK at a glance
- What it is: an electronic profile in the system, without which you cannot start a course or book a test.
- Who creates it: the transport department of the district authority, city office or borough office (in Warsaw), not the driving school.
- What you need: an application, a medical certificate, a recent photograph and an identity document.
- Where to apply: in person at the office responsible for your place of residence, by post or electronically through ePUAP.
- Cost: the PKK itself is free. The driving licence issuance fee (100 PLN) is separate and paid after passing the test. The exception is an electronic application through ePUAP, where 100.50 PLN is paid at the start, before submitting the application.
- Waiting time: usually immediately or within 2 days; the statutory maximum can be 1–2 months in disputed cases.
What is a PKK?
A Driver Candidate Profile is a set of data identifying a person applying for a driving licence, held in an electronic system. Your driving school uses it to enrol you on a course, and the regional driving test centre (Wojewódzki Ośrodek Ruchu Drogowego, WORD) uses it to book your test.
A PKK is not a physical document: it is an electronic record linked to your PESEL number. In practice, what matters is the PKK number you give to the school and WORD.
Do you need a PKK before starting a course?
Yes. You need a PKK number to start a course for any driving licence category: no driving school can enrol a learner without it. The order is therefore the reverse of what some people expect: get your PKK first, then enrol at a school.
How to get a PKK, step by step
- Have a medical examination. You need a medical certificate confirming that there are no medical contraindications to driving; the office cannot create your profile without it.
- Gather the documents and photograph. Prepare the application, a recent colour photograph (35×45 mm) and an identity document.
- Submit your application. Apply in person, by post or electronically through ePUAP; see where to submit your documents.
- Receive your PKK number. It is usually issued immediately or within 2 days. You then give it to your driving school and WORD.
Which documents do you need for a PKK?
- A driving licence application — the form is available at the office or on its website.
- A medical certificate confirming that there are no medical contraindications to driving.
- A recent colour photograph, 35×45 mm, taken no more than 6 months before the application.
- An identity document for inspection: an identity card or passport.
- Written consent from a parent or legal guardian — only if applying before turning 18 (see getting a PKK before turning 18).
- A psychological assessment certificate — only for certain categories, including C1, C, D1 and D; it is not required for category B.
- A copy of your existing driving licence — if applying for another category rather than your first licence.
Check what you need for your PKK
Answer a few questions to see your document checklist. Your answers are processed only in your browser and are never sent or saved anywhere.
Your answers are processed locally in your browser. PrawkoStart.pl does not receive or store them. They disappear when you refresh the page.
Where should you submit the documents?
Submit the documents to the transport department responsible for your place of residence: the district authority (starostwo powiatowe), a city office with district status, or a borough office in Warsaw. You can apply in person, post the documents or apply electronically; see the next section.
Can you get a PKK online?
Yes. You can submit the application from which the office creates your PKK online in two ways:
- The info-kierowca.pl e-services portal (PWPW) — the “Wniosek o Prawo jazdy” service. You log in through login.gov.pl (the mObywatel app) or the eDO App. The form guides you step by step: choose the category and how you will collect the document, attach scans or photos of documents such as the medical certificate (PDF, JPG or PNG, up to 5 MB per file), add your photo and signature, then sign the application electronically and, if required, pay by card, BLIK or bank transfer. According to the portal, you do not need to post anything. Not every office accepts online payments; if yours does not, attach confirmation of an ordinary transfer to the office’s account.
- ePUAP — the “Uzyskanie prawa jazdy” service, which the Ministry of Infrastructure still describes. You need a trusted profile (profil zaufany) or a qualified electronic signature, and you post the originals of the photo, medical certificate and any parental consent.
Either way, the application goes to the licensing office (wydział komunikacji) for your place of residence, which creates the PKK. Once sent, an application can no longer be edited.
If the office finds something missing, the portal shows the status “Wymaga uzupełnienia” (needs completing) with a letter from the office — you complete the application where you submitted it.
Official PKK forms
A PKK is created from your driving licence application. The form is the same across Poland and is set by a regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure — a new version has applied since 3 September 2026 (Journal of Laws 2026, item 1162, annex).
- Driving licence application (wniosek o wydanie prawa jazdy) — pick up the form at the vehicle and driver licensing office (wydział komunikacji) or download it from your office’s website. The official template is in the annex to the regulation; the whole service is described on gov.pl — Uzyskaj prawo jazdy.
- Medical certificate — there is no form to download: an authorised doctor issues it after the examination.
- Written consent of a parent or guardian (before your 18th birthday) — the law sets no nationwide template; it is usually signed at the office.
Watch out for older forms. An office may use up the previous version of the form, but only until 31 December 2026 at the latest and only with the statement from the new form attached. The application file offered on gov.pl is an earlier version (as of 9 October 2026) — ask your office which form it accepts before filling it in.
How much does a PKK cost?
The Driver Candidate Profile itself is free: there is no charge for creating it. The driving licence issuance fee is separate, and when you pay depends on the procedure:
- Standard paper procedure at the office. You apply for the PKK without paying a fee. You pay 100 PLN for the licence only after passing the practical test, once WORD has notified the office of the result. This is a separate, later step, not part of applying for the PKK.
- Electronic procedure through ePUAP, as described by the Ministry of Infrastructure. Here, the 100.50 PLN fee (100 PLN plus a 0.50 PLN registration fee) is required at the start, before submitting the application through the platform, rather than after the test.
People with disabilities who are exempt from fees for issuing a document confirming their driving entitlement may also be exempt from this fee. Confirm the details with your office.
How long does it take to create a PKK?
With a complete set of documents, you will usually receive your PKK number immediately, or within 2 days if the data needs further checks.
The statutory maximum administrative deadlines are longer: up to one month if the case requires investigation, and up to two months for particularly complex cases. You would not normally expect to wait that long: these are upper limits, rather than typical processing times.
Does a PKK expire?
The PKK number itself has no statutory expiry date. In practice, however, the validity of the medical certificate attached to your application can be a limit.
If your training and tests take longer than the certificate remains valid, you will need a current certificate to continue. The doctor sets its validity individually, so there is no single fixed period for everyone.
Our guide to resuming an interrupted driving course explains what happens to your profile after a longer break, including after 24 months.
Getting a PKK before turning 18
Since 3 March 2026, you can obtain a category B licence from age 17. A PKK application for a minor also requires written consent from a parent or legal guardian to start training. In practice, this usually means visiting the office together with the parent or guardian who signs the consent. Read more in our guide to getting a driving licence at 17.
Where can you find your PKK number?
The office gives you your PKK number when it creates your profile. Keep a record of it — you will give it to the driving school and use it to book the test. If you lose it, the office where the application was filed can confirm it again.
You can also check the number and the stage of your profile online:
- info-kierowca.pl — after logging in, the “Sprawdź status sprawy” service shows the PKK stage: PKK zostało wygenerowane (created) → W trakcie szkolenia (in training) → Zakończenie szkolenia (training completed) → W trakcie egzaminu (in testing) → Zakończenie egzaminu (testing completed). If you applied through the portal, the PKK number is also in “Lista moich spraw” (my cases).
- info-car.pl — the existing status check (PESEL number, first name and surname), which the Ministry of Infrastructure still points to.
What should you do after receiving your PKK number?
Once you have a PKK number, there are two options:
- A full course at a driving school (OSK). Enrol at your chosen school using the PKK number. The school registers you in the system and you complete theory lessons and practical driving training.
- Prepare for theory independently. You can study for the theory test on your own, book it directly at WORD and start practical driving training later.
In both cases, the PKK number connects the office, driving school and WORD in one process. You do not need to carry paper certificates between them; giving the number is enough.
You keep the same profile if you change test centres. On request, the WORD that downloaded it can make it available to another centre together with your test results. See how to change WORD.
To continue training at another school, see our guide to changing driving schools.
Common PKK problems
- Incomplete documents. The most common reason for a longer wait is a missing medical certificate or an out-of-date photograph.
- A photograph that does not meet the requirements. For electronic applications it must meet specific technical requirements, including pixel dimensions and file format. For paper applications, a standard 35×45 mm biometric photograph is sufficient.
- A medical certificate expiring during a long course. If the process takes longer, you may need another examination.
- The driving school cannot see the PKK number in the system. This is usually a data synchronisation delay. If the number has been issued but the school cannot see it yet, wait a little or contact the office that created the PKK.
- No parental consent for a minor. Without written consent from a parent or legal guardian, the office will not create a profile for someone under 18.
- The portal does not show your PKK. info-kierowca.pl finds profiles by PESEL number — check that it is in your details in the portal. The profile must also exist already: the office generates it within 2 working days of receiving a complete application. Without a PKK number you cannot book a test.
- The message “Dla wskazanego PKK nie zostało ukończone szkolenie w OSK”. The driving school has not yet recorded the completed course in your profile — see below for what to do.
The message “Dla wskazanego PKK nie zostało ukończone szkolenie w OSK” — what to do
The info-kierowca.pl portal shows this message (“training at the driving school has not been completed for this PKK”) when you book a test. It means your PKK does not yet record that you finished the course. Until it does, the portal lets you book only the theory test — practical and combined tests are unavailable.
Why it appears. The driving school records the completed course in the PKK: the head of the school updates the profile (including the end date and the number of hours) and signs it electronically (§ 16(1) of the training regulation).
You are entitled to the training completion certificate once you have attended at least 80% of the theory classes, all driving lessons and first-aid classes, and passed the internal exam (Article 27(4) of the Act on Vehicle Drivers).
If you passed the state theory test first, the theory classes and the theory part of the internal exam do not apply — all driving lessons, first-aid classes and the practical part of the internal exam are enough (Articles 23a and 27(4a) of the Act).
Without this record you cannot take the practical part of the state test; you can take the theory part (Article 50(2)(5) of the Act).
What to do:
- Check the PKK stage in the portal (the “Sprawdź status sprawy” service). “W trakcie szkolenia” (in training) means the school has not yet reported the end of the course.
- If the course is still running — finish the lessons and pass the internal exam. You can already book the theory test at WORD.
- If you have finished the course and the internal exam — ask the driving school to update your profile and give you the training certificate, and book the test again once the status changes to “Zakończenie szkolenia” (training completed).
- If you changed schools — the school where you finish the course records its completion. If your previous school still blocks the profile, see what to do when a school will not release your PKK.
- If the school does not respond — driving schools are supervised by the starosta (in a city with county rights, the city president); that is where you file a complaint about a school.
Report technical problems with the portal to PWPW technical support: kontakt@info-kierowca.pl, tel. +48 22 464 79 99. The driving school and the office, not the portal operator, are responsible for what your profile contains.
