Category B driving course in Wrocław — how to choose and where to start

Ask for a concrete driving plan before you compare prices. An office close to home does not tell you where your lessons start or how often you will meet the instructor. If you work or study, a free afternoon may matter more than a quick date for the first lectures.

• Where lessons start and end: check how you get there by tram or bus and how long the way home takes. Ask whether you meet at the office, at a training ground or somewhere else.
• The real schedule: ask for the nearest date of the first lesson and whether you can have regular lessons at your hours.
• Language of instruction: confirm that both the theory and the driving lessons are taught in the language you need, and that the instructor speaks it well enough to explain road situations.
• Range of practice: ask about different junctions, trams, lane changes, parking and driving outside the city. Learning the area around the exam centre is not a substitute for judging situations yourself.
• Terms of cooperation: agree how you can change the instructor, reschedule lessons, pay in instalments and buy extra hours.

Start from the car you plan to drive after the course. On a manual you learn to use the clutch and change gears. An automatic simplifies handling the car, but you still have to observe the road, judge priority and plan manoeuvres.

Ask the school about the availability of an instructor and a car for the gearbox you choose, and about how the exam is organised. Do not assume that the exam date will be the same for a manual and an automatic. If the school offers its own car for the exam, agree the cost and conditions of that service.

Mind the restriction on your entitlement. Code 78 on a licence means vehicles without a clutch pedal only (Annex 1, point 2.2.4, code 78 of the regulation on document templates). Reserving a place at a school and creating a PKK are two separate steps. First you can ask about the schedule and the terms of the contract. For the formalities, prepare the documents needed in your situation; do not leave this until the day of the first lesson.

The PKK is created by the authority that issues driving licences, on the basis of the documents you submit (§ 5(1)–(2) of the regulation on issuing documents).

The basic set consists of an application, a medical certificate and a photograph; additional documents depend on your situation. The profile number is then used by the school and the exam centre (§ 5(5)). Check the PKK checklist before you submit the application.

Where to get a PKK in Wrocław? The City Hall accepts applications at COM I at ul. G. Zapolskiej 4 (room S1, counters 1–3) and at COM VI at ul. Legnicka 58, in the Magnolia Park shopping centre (1st floor). Before you go, check the current locations and opening hours for PKK service on the official Wrocław BIP (the page is in Polish).

When you enrol, agree on: the gearbox, the language of the lessons, the form of the theory, payment terms and the driving plan, and ask for these terms to be confirmed. Theory test languages. According to the centre, the theory test for a driving licence is currently available in Polish, English and German, and for category B also in Ukrainian. Check the list again when you book, because it may change.
